Peter M. Villari
Attorney
“I always liked the underdog and wanted to help people.”
Peter Villari, an equity partner and senior trial counsel at Villari, Giannone and Matteo, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before earning his law degree from Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. While at Dickinson, Peter actively participated in the trial moot court and was undefeated during his time in the program. Peter also clerked for a Pennsylvania state senator while in law school.
Upon graduation from law school, Peter immediately began litigating cases on behalf of injured victims and commercial clients. Raised in a family business within a competitive industry, Peter developed and maintains a strong understanding of the complex needs and rights of businesses both big and small, as well as of their employees. Eventually, Peter dedicated his career to representing victims of personal injury caused by motor vehicle collisions, trucking accidents, defective products, premises defects and medical malpractice, but he still litigates complex commercial matters when requested.
Peter’s practice has focused on the representation of children who have suffered injury as a result of preventable birth trauma. Peter has successfully litigated and tried cases in state and federal courts throughout Pennsylvania, and has been involved in numerous multi-million-dollar verdicts and settlements.
Philadelphia based lawyer fighting for you
“As a lawyer, you’re always dealing with people and conflict. I was in the meat business. I was the oldest son of three. A lot of things just naturally fell to me… I got a taste very early on in life of what contracts were, what obligations were, duties, responsibilities. And it never phased me that it was preparing me for being at ease when I’m with people that are much older than me, or have authority over me or when I am in positions of conflict that can be threatening. It just taught me a lot about staying at ease, staying calm, looking for the solution to diffuse – not inflame – situations with anger or emotion. And that’s a lot of what a good trial lawyer does, which is what I am, a trial lawyer. You look for the root cause in representing your clients and proving it.” – Attorney Peter Villari
Peter continues to be an advocate for educational rights for learning disabled children. He seeks to ensure that school districts provide an appropriate education for children who have problems learning compared to their peers, even if it means fighting to require the school district to pay for the child to attend a school outside of the district. Together with his partners, Peter seeks to ensure that No Child Left Behind really means no child is left behind. Additionally, Peter is significantly engaged (with his partner, Paul Brandes) in the design and development of computer software that assists trial lawyers in their visual presentations to juries.
More recently, Peter has also concentrated his practice on matters concerning environmental pollution and toxic torts. He is devoted to environmental counseling and litigation, and assists clients with respect to remedying contaminated property and recouping lost property value. He has extensive experience working with regulatory agencies, on site investigations, cleanups, enforcement and regulatory matters. Some of Peter’s most notable cases include: the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Forward Township, PA fly ash disasters, and the Shippingsport, PA air pollution class action.
Memberships and Associations
Peter is a member of the Philadelphia County, Montgomery County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations, as well as the Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Associations and the Birth Trauma Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice. He was certified as a Trial Advocate by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy in 1989, and teaches courses for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute regarding issues ranging from medical malpractice/birth trauma to tractor-trailer accident litigation.
Although well known for his trial advocacy skills, Peter holds dearer the fact that most of his clients call him friend and applaud his willingness to listen to them, hear them and understand them. While most attorneys would cringe at the thought, all clients have his home phone number. Peter’s passion is and will remain to vigorously advocate the rights of those who have been victimized by the carelessness and negligence of others.
